Jaipur Day 2

Nov 20
Moms are smart. Today was a great day. Amber Fort, the Water Palace, the Wind Palace, a stone/jewelry place, Jantar Mantar (astronomy observatory from the 1700s), navigating Pink City, and a Bollywood show (well half of it- that was enough given there weren’t any subtitles).

I saw so much today and then even more.
Me and the Amber Fort in the background.

The first square, a shot of the moon gate and then some elephants.

The main audience chamber.

The Amber Fort is naturally fortified - surrounded by mountains and this valley/pass is the only opening, plus there is a wall all the way around. Just incredible.

The art work is really intricate.

In the next square/section everything was covered in tiny mirrors - in order to bring the queen the stars.

View outside of Amber Fort.

The Water Palace.

Inside Jantur Mantur - I can’t remember what this was called, but it is to accurately measure meridian. I went here on my own and got my own audio tour - it was perfect.

The very accurate sundial. I have a lot of photos from here and really enjoyed my time here - I won’t bore you with all the photos - but some...

These are essentially all set up to spot and watch each constellation in the zodiac.

Here’s the one for Pisces.

Incredible inverse map of the sky. So cool!

After wandering around the observatory I walked back to my hotel through the Pink City and stumbled through the equivalent of Home Depot, but in the India market sense. You walk through the Pink City and at Chand Pole stay right past the fruit stands, then past the chicken and fish stands. Then you stay right at the pigs (the pigs are alive - but not looking good). Then the hotel is about 100 steps on the left. Super easy. Seriously - I was mixed about being happy that I made it home without getting lost and then a bit miffed that I didn’t get lost. All in all - a good day.

  1. I hope you got a picture of the sculpture for Virgo. We may need to re-create it here.
